Body fat percentage is a more precise indicator than weight alone for assessing body composition, distinguishing fat mass from muscle, bone and fluids. High percentages are linked to health risks such as heart disease and diabetes.
How the calculation works
The calculator uses the Deurenberg equation based on BMI: body fat = 1.2 × BMI + 0.23 × age − 10.8 × (1 for men, 0 for women) − 5.4. Approximate healthy adult ranges: 8–20% for men and 21–33% for women, rising slightly with age.
