The Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City is the largest and most important health institution in the Strip, receiving thousands of patients every day from different governorates. It is considered the last refuge for tens of thousands of patients and wounded people, especially during times of war and crisis. With the repeated power outages and the chronic fuel crisis, patients' lives have become directly threatened, as even a few seconds of stoppage of medical equipment inside operating rooms or intensive care units can lead to the loss of priceless lives.
In response to this urgent need, the International Medical Relief Association (Medics) implemented an urgent humanitarian project consisting of providing an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for the operating department and intensive care unit at Al-Shifa Medical Complex. This device ensures the continued operation of vital equipment such as anesthesia machines, ventilators, and medical monitoring devices, even in cases of sudden power outages.
The project directly contributed to protecting the lives of more than 12,000 patients annually who undergo surgical operations at the hospital, in addition to supporting the care of approximately 8,000 cases in intensive care units, including newborn children and patients in critical condition. In addition, the project had a wide impact on tens of thousands of displaced people and injured persons who sought refuge in Al-Shifa during the most recent war. Under these difficult circumstances, the hospital received more than 100,000 displaced people and injured persons who needed urgent health care, medical services, or life-saving operations, which further increased the importance of ensuring the continuous operation of its vital departments.
This intervention was not merely a technical solution, but a lifeline that saved lives and a message of human solidarity with Gaza, as Al-Shifa Medical Complex remains a local and global symbol of resilience and determination to live despite displacement, suffering, and the harsh conditions endured by the population.
